MICROFLUIDICS INTRODUCES CONSTANT PRESSURE OPTION FOR ITS M-700 SERIES PILOT/PRODUCTION SYSTEMS
Expected Increase in Productivity and Reliability

Newton, Mass. - Microfluidics, a wholly owned subsidiary of MFIC Corporation, introduces a digitally controlled constant pressure option for their M700 series Microfluidizer® high shear fluid processors. “This is a breakthrough” comments Chris Werner, VP of Engineering. “We are approaching the ideal fluid processing conditions by achieving a nearly uniform pressure profile. Coupled with our proprietary fixed geometry interaction chambers, our constant pressure option ensures that all of product is exposed to the same level of shear force. This option means that fewer passes will be required in production and translates directly to cost savings for our customers.” Operating at constant process pressure is expected to also minimize component stress, resulting in longer component life and significantly increasing machine reliability.

The constant pressure option utilizes intelligent built-in pump position transducers that automatically adapt to changing requirements and easily maintain constant process pressure. This full digital control of the dual synchronous high pressure intensifier pumps ensures that the product flows at constant pressure and velocities through the interaction chambers. This control eliminates pressure spikes, provides extremely uniform processing, and permits the M700 system to operate more quietly and efficiently.

The M700 constant pressure option allows simplified control of process pressures and direct connection via Ethernet to the customer's process control system. With the constant pressure option, real time flow rates are displayed on an LCD panel and built-in alarms warn and/or shut down the unattended system in the event of out-of-spec processing pressure. This significantly reduces the incidence of product waste and improves overall product quality.

The constant pressure system offers an explosion-proof (XP/ATEX) version which utilizes an explosion-proof motor and sensors and incorporates control technology that senses inert gases as they circulate and automatically shuts the system down in the event of hazardous gas entry.

The M700 constant pressure option is available for sale worldwide, and is CE/ATEX compliant. M700 Series Microfluidizer® processors offer a wide range of industrial capabilities, with pressures up to 40,000 psi and a variety of options including clean-in-place, steam-in-place, full processing isolation, and full automation.
